EDF introduces a promotion where customers can enjoy free electricity on Sundays by reducing their electricity usage during peak hours on weekdays. This initiative, known as the Sunday Saver challenge, is back for February. Customers are required to shift their electricity consumption away from peak hours, typically between 4pm to 7pm each weekday.
In exchange for reducing their weekday peak consumption, customers will receive between four to 16 hours of free electricity the following Sunday. EDF customers can participate in four Sunday Saver challenges scheduled for February 15 and 22, as well as March 1 and 8. Customers with smart meters can sign up for this offer until Sunday, February 1.
EDF reports that over 260,000 households have already benefited from the Sunday Saver initiative, accumulating over 17 million hours of free electricity. This has resulted in £5.2 million in credits being applied to customers’ bills.
During the Christmas period, more than 100,000 customers received eight hours of free electricity, totaling 910,536 free hours distributed by EDF. One customer, Natasha Shields from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, has earned over 680 free hours through this program, helping her manage rising living costs.
Jon Perks, EDF’s Sales & Marketing Director, emphasized the importance of the Sunday Saver challenge in helping customers reduce costs during peak winter billing periods. The initiative also contributes to a more sustainable electricity grid by encouraging energy-efficient practices.
Customers can monitor their Sunday Saver progress through the Energy Hub on MyAccount, enabling them to track their household’s energy usage. Additionally, EDF is offering £50 credit to new and existing customers who sign up for any of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs within the next month. These tariffs provide five hours of cheaper electricity every night between 12 am to 5 am for both homes and EV charging.
