Celine Dion, a renowned recording artist and recipient of Grammy and Juno awards, has been honored with a new accolade – a collectible Barbie doll. However, some fans have expressed dissatisfaction with Mattel’s depiction of the famous Canadian singer, claiming that the doll does not resemble her accurately.

Mattel unveiled the Celine Dion doll as part of its Barbie Signature Series, which features collectible dolls celebrating prominent figures from various fields like fashion, arts, sports, and more. Previous figures honored in this series include Miley Cyrus, Whitney Houston, Marilyn Monroe, Venus and Serena Williams, and Dr. Jane Goodall.

The limited-edition Dion doll replicates her appearance from the 1998 Academy Awards, where she performed “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic, which won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Dion expressed her gratitude for being immortalized in the Barbie legacy and hoped that the doll would inspire individuals to pursue their dreams and embrace self-expression.

Despite the tribute, initial reactions from fans on social media conveyed disappointment with the doll’s likeness, which retails for $90. Some fans, while appreciating the iconic dress and necklace, criticized the doll’s facial features, with one fan comparing it to an “old lady Rose from Titanic.”

Others noted similarities between the doll and actress Lisa Rinna or Princess Diana. Meanwhile, Dion recently made a triumphant return to the stage after a six-year hiatus due to health issues, including a diagnosis of stiff person syndrome. She performed at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, marking the beginning of a series of highly anticipated shows extending into 2027.

The Barbie doll controversy has sparked mixed reactions among fans, highlighting the challenges of capturing a celebrity’s essence in a collectible item. Despite the criticisms, the doll serves as a tribute to Celine Dion’s enduring legacy in the music industry.
