Former Winter Olympics champion Lindsey Vonn showed unwavering support for Team USA despite a dramatic crash during the Winter Olympics. Vonn’s teammate, Breezy Johnson, shared that Vonn was rooting for her while being airlifted to safety following her downhill race accident in Cortina d’Ampezzo.
Lindsey Vonn, aged 41, made a comeback to the Winter Olympics after a hiatus since 2018, skipping the 2022 Games. Unfortunately, her return was marred by a serious crash caused by a flag marker, resulting in her being thrown into the air.
The incident was especially tragic as Vonn had recently undergone surgery for a severe knee injury, bravely choosing to compete despite the challenges. While some criticized the decision to allow Vonn to participate, others applauded her determination and spirit.
Johnson, aged 30, commended Vonn’s resilience and shared that Vonn was celebrating her achievements even while being transported by helicopter. Johnson had finished her run before Vonn’s mishap, securing the top spot on the podium.

“Her coach mentioned she was rooting for me while in the helicopter, so I’m hopeful for her recovery,” said Johnson. “My thoughts are with her, and it’s a tough sport sometimes.”
“I had a good feeling, and it still feels unreal. I knew I had to give it my all and push harder than in practice. I couldn’t afford any mistakes,” she added.
Johnson claimed the gold medal, edging past Germany’s Emma Aicher by a mere 0.04 seconds, marking her first Olympic win. She became only the second American to secure gold in this category, following Vonn’s triumph in 2010.
Vonn’s painful reaction to the crash moved BBC commentator Chemmy Alcott to tears as she described the harrowing scene, while Johnson sent a heartfelt message of support to Vonn amidst her own celebration of victory.
“I wish you all the best and hope to see you back soon. Your accomplishments are incredible, and my heart goes out to you,” Johnson expressed.

About a year ago, Johnson celebrated a career milestone at the 2025 Alpine World Ski Championships, clinching her first world titles in Austria. After missing the 2022 Winter Olympics due to injury, she made a remarkable comeback this time with Vonn’s support from afar.
Recently, Johnson defended Vonn’s decision to compete despite her knee injury, highlighting that many athletes perform without an ACL and that the full story is often overlooked.
