A manhunt was launched in November for Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, a convicted sex offender mistakenly released from HMP Wandsworth. The Algerian national, who has been illegally staying in the UK since 2020, faced charges for exposing himself in a London park in 2024.

Kaddour-Cherif, 24, recently pleaded guilty to burglarizing a garage in Walthamstow, London, to steal bikes and carrying a knife in another incident in Earlswood. The court remanded him into custody for sentencing on January 27 for both crimes, which occurred in January and November of 2023.

Additionally, he will be sentenced for missing a court hearing in September while on bail. Kaddour-Cherif’s accidental release from prison led to embarrassment for the Government, following a similar incident involving another wrongly freed migrant, Hadush Kebatu, convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

Official data disclosed a 128% increase in prisoners released in error in the year leading up to March 2025, with Kaddour-Cherif’s case adding to the growing concern. Despite his previous denials, he now faces the consequences of his actions as he awaits his fate in custody.
