The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has apprehended a minor in Montreal over suspected terrorism activities. According to a recent RCMP statement, the young individual was allegedly planning an assault on a local school. The RCMP spokesperson, Sgt. Érique Gasse, disclosed that the suspect employed artificial intelligence in the planning phase and made threatening remarks on Telegram directed at various groups, including Muslims, Haitians, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

Sgt. Gasse mentioned that the FBI provided crucial information a few weeks back, flagging the suspect’s intentions to carry out an attack. The arrest took place at the suspect’s residence on Friday morning under the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team’s investigation, which focuses on monitoring and thwarting criminal actions by terrorist entities or individuals posing threats to Canadian national security.

The operation aims to disrupt the suspect’s alleged activities, with ongoing searches at the suspect’s home for electronic devices and pertinent evidence. The authorities are considering obtaining a peace bond for monitoring and intervention purposes. The suspect is currently being interrogated by investigators, and as per Gasse, will make a court appearance in the youth court on Saturday. The RCMP indicated that potential charges may follow at a later date.
