Brighton & Hove Albion has officially secured the services of Promise David for the upcoming Premier League season. The Canadian striker has been signed on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with a potential future purchase option set at a reported fee of $29.7 million US, contingent on meeting specific criteria.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be making the move to the Premier League starting from the next season, for a record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old forward arrives at Brighton after a successful stint at Union, where he netted 41 goals in 82 appearances and played a key role in the club’s first league title win in 90 years back in 2025. David, who extended his contract through June 2029 last year, also represented Canada at the recent World Cup, contributing one goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has accumulated four goals in 14 matches for the Canadian national team.

Originally hailing from Brampton, Ontario, David initially debuted for Nigeria’s under-23 team in October 2022. However, following discussions with Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch, FIFA approved his request to switch national team allegiance in February 2025.

Brighton is the latest destination in David’s diverse career journey, which has seen him play professionally in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before making the move to Belgium in July 2024. Brighton’s sporting director, Mike Cave, expressed the club’s excitement about David’s arrival, highlighting his goal-scoring prowess, physical attributes, international experience, and European competition background as valuable assets for the upcoming season. The club, which finished in 8th place in the Premier League last season, is hopeful that David, entering his prime years at 25, will continue to evolve and contribute positively to their campaign.
