Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan has made history by achieving the highest break ever seen in a professional snooker match, scoring an impressive 153 against opponent Ryan Day.
Competing in the World Open in Yushan, China, O’Sullivan has been in exceptional form, defeating Matthew Selt and Shaun Murphy to secure a spot in the quarter-finals against Day.
During the match, known as ‘The Rocket,’ O’Sullivan astounded spectators by setting a new record in the opening frame, surpassing the previous highest break of 148 held by Jamie Burnett. O’Sullivan executed a flawless 16-red clearance, seizing the opportunity to clear the table and secure the record-breaking score.
Although O’Sullivan was on the brink of achieving a perfect 155 total maximum break, he had to settle for 153 after a slight deviation on one shot forced him to pot the pink instead of the black ball.
Despite ultimately losing the frame, Day graciously applauded O’Sullivan’s remarkable feat, leaving both players and commentators in awe of the historic moment. Neal Foulds, reacting to the spectacular performance, described it as “mind-blowing.”
O’Sullivan’s achievement not only shattered the previous record set by Burnett in 2004 but also propels him closer to securing a spot in the World Open semi-finals.
