Vince McMahon, a prominent figure in television history, was the mastermind behind WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), the largest professional wrestling empire globally. Known for his love of on-screen drama and controversy, McMahon faced personal turmoil in 2024. At 80 years old, he resigned from the organization he had painstakingly built amid allegations of sex trafficking. The accusations included unsettling claims like owning a collection of sex toys named after WWE wrestlers and engaging in inappropriate behavior during a threesome.
A groundbreaking Netflix documentary series released the same year delved into McMahon’s polarizing career, featuring candid interviews with the mogul. McMahon even astonishingly revealed that he maintained a “third brain” solely dedicated to sexual thoughts.
During McMahon’s reign at the helm of the company, no one seemed immune to his harsh leadership style. The Netflix documentary highlighted instances where even his own daughter fell victim to his extreme behavior. Reports from the Daily Star detailed incidents where McMahon allegedly strangled his daughter unconscious during a live broadcast and forced a top performer to strip down to her underwear and mimic a dog.
Trish Stratus, a former model and eight-time WWE champion, initially entered the organization in 2000 portraying McMahon’s mistress. The scandal peaked in March 2001 when she was humiliated on live television by being instructed to strip and act like a dog in the ring at McMahon’s command.
Despite the public backlash branding the segment as demeaning, Stratus defended the controversial storyline to Netflix, emphasizing the intention to evoke strong reactions and garner sympathy for her character.
The narrative took another controversial turn involving McMahon’s wife, Linda, who currently serves as the Secretary of Education in the administration of US President Donald Trump. On-screen, Linda was depicted as comatose and wheelchair-bound, forced to witness McMahon’s conflicts with their children and pursuit of Stratus. In a particularly shocking scene, McMahon openly kissed Stratus in front of his incapacitated wife.
When questioned by Netflix, McMahon justified his actions by claiming they were meant to portray him as a despicable character, emphasizing the narrative’s intention to showcase his villainous persona.
In 2022, McMahon stepped down as CEO and chairman of WWE following an internal investigation revealing substantial payouts made to conceal his misconduct. Two years later, amidst mounting criticism from the sex trafficking lawsuit, he exited the company entirely.
Despite refuting all allegations, McMahon criticized Netflix’s documentary portrayal of his leadership as misleading and misrepresented.
