CBC’s reality show, The Assembly, is set to launch its second season featuring six new celebrity interviews and an expanded cast of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults conducting the interviews. Notable personalities such as actors Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry), Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover), and Jay Baruchel (This is the End) will be among the guests facing the intriguing questions.
The upcoming six-episode season will showcase interviews with figures like actor and former Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull (North of North), singer-songwriter Lights, and three-time Olympic hockey gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin. Each celebrity will undergo an unscripted interview session where they will be asked direct and unexpected questions, delving beyond the usual promotional discourse to reveal personal insights.
The show’s appeal lies in its candid approach, allowing for genuine interactions, humorous moments, and authentic connections between the guests and interviewers. The format of The Assembly is inspired by the French program Les Rencontres du Papotin, which started in 2022 with notable guests like Camille Cottin and Emmanuel Macron.
The previous season of CBC’s The Assembly received accolades such as a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, and a Golden Sheaf Award at the Yorkton Film Festival. The show was also a nominee for a Banff Rockie Award. Executive producer Stephen Sawchuk promises that the new season will deliver more heartfelt conversations, humor, and genuine moments, resonating with audiences seeking authentic human connections.
Produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment, The Assembly Season 2 premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem, with extended “producer’s cuts” exclusively available on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
