A video clip showed thick black smoke emerging from behind a security fence at the airport after a vehicle fire was reported around 7:25 am local time (12:25 UK time). An American Airlines tow truck caught fire, but it was swiftly extinguished by the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting team without any reported injuries or disruptions.
According to an airport spokesperson, the fire incident took place at Terminal 8 (airside) of JFK Airport, involving the American Airlines tow truck. The situation was contained promptly, and airport operations remained unaffected. The timestamped social media posts indicated the incident occurred around 12:46 pm GMT.
While the cause of the fire remains unknown, a video clip circulating online suggests it involved a vehicle, possibly an emergency services car, with flashing lights near some gates. Footage from the Citizen app displayed plumes of black smoke rising from the airport area.
