The White House under Donald Trump has announced an impromptu press conference scheduled for today. The updated Daily Schedule now includes a press briefing led by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. While the specific topic of the conference remains undisclosed, it comes in the wake of escalating outrage following the fatal shooting of an unarmed woman by an ICE agent in Minnesota.

Earlier today, a large group of protesters congregated outside an immigration enforcement center in St. Paul, Minnesota, in response to the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a mother of three, by an ICE agent as she attempted to drive away.

The press conference is set to take place at 1 pm in Washington DC, corresponding to 6 pm UK time.

In a post on Truth Social following the incident, Trump alleged that a video he had viewed showed the driver deliberately running over the ICE agent, causing injuries. Contrary to his claims, there is no evidence to support these assertions.

Trump also asserted that the officer who fired the shots was receiving medical treatment in a hospital. However, there is no indication that the officer sustained any injuries or required hospitalization.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz denounced the dissemination of misinformation, stating, “I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe this propaganda machine.” He further criticized the federal response to the incident, condemning the chaos and premature conclusions drawn by Homeland Security officials.

Video footage of the altercation depicts the moments leading up to the shooting, showing one officer near the vehicle as another attempts to open the door. Subsequently, the driver maneuvers away from the officers and accelerates, prompting the officer to fire multiple shots at close range. Following the shooting, the vehicle collided with parked cars, and the officer, seemingly unharmed, walked away.

Despite the unfolding events, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem swiftly labeled the incident as an “act of domestic terrorism,” attributing the altercation to the woman attacking the ICE officers. However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey disputed this narrative, refuting claims of self-defense and asserting that the use of force resulted in unnecessary tragedy.

As the situation continues to unfold, tensions remain high, with conflicting accounts and calls for accountability echoing throughout the community.
