Ginger Meadows, a 24-year-old American model from Snowmass Village, Colorado, was inspired by the movie ‘Crocodile Dundee’ to embark on a journey to the Australian Outback. Accompanied by her friend Jane Burchett, they planned to visit King’s Cascade aboard the luxury boat Lady G. Despite warnings about the presence of dangerous crocodiles, the pair decided to take a swim near the waterfall. Tragically, they encountered a large saltwater crocodile that attacked Ginger, dragging her underwater. Despite efforts to save her, Ginger succumbed to the predator.
The next day, on what would have been her 25th birthday, Ginger’s body was recovered. Chief Inspector Arnold Davies described the harrowing incident where a crocodile attempted to attack the body bag containing her remains during transportation. Meadows’ estranged husband, Dwayne McCaulley, identified her body upon arrival. Bruce Fitzpatrick, the boat’s skipper, revealed that Ginger had been warned about the crocodile-infested waters but chose to ignore the advice.
Ginger’s demise marked one of the notable crocodile attacks in Australian history. Data from Charles Darwin University indicated that between 1979 and 2022, there were 76 crocodile attacks in the Northern Territory, with a 30% fatality rate. Ginger Meadows’ tragic encounter with the crocodile serves as a reminder of the dangers present in the Australian wilderness.
