Police in Mexico were shocked to find the dismembered bodies of three men inside six plastic bags dumped in a commercial complex. The discovery was made in the Acapulco Diamante region of Guerrero state following reports from the Playa Dinamita area. Authorities were alerted on January 9 after the suspicious bags were found behind the La Isla complex.

Upon arrival at the scene at around 9pm, investigators confirmed that the bags contained the heads and limbs of the three victims, adding to a series of similar cases in Guerrero. The bodies were transported to a morgue in El Quemado for further examination, but as of now, none of the victims have been identified.

This incident is not the first of its kind in the region. In April 2025, federal investigators were called to Acapulco after plastic bags containing the remains of a single victim were discovered. The National Guard, State Police, Navy, and forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s office were involved in collecting the bags, which held the victim’s dismembered body parts.

Authorities also found a threatening note near the body, allegedly signed by an unidentified criminal group. In another grim discovery the same month, the bodies of 11 murder victims were found in the Tecoanapa municipality following clashes between rival gangs.

Past incidents of decapitations have been linked to the “La Barredora” gang operating in Guerrero. One such case involved six severed heads found in August of the previous year. The killings, which took place on a road connecting Puebla and Tlaxcala, raised concerns despite the area not being known for cartel violence.

Guerrero has a high rate of homicides, with a significant portion of Mexico’s murders occurring in the state. Most of the violence is attributed to drug trafficking, prompting warnings against non-essential travel by the foreign office. The situation became so dire in 2024 that Catholic bishops intervened to broker a truce between rival cartels to alleviate the violence.
