Nearly four years ago, Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a routine. Encouraged by her brother, she turned to her passion for K-pop and the popular boy band BTS. This led her to establish BTS Army Toronto, a local fan club that organizes events and meet-ups for fans of the South Korean band.
Despite facing personal tragedy with her brother’s passing shortly after founding the club, Vann persisted and grew the organization into a vibrant community that engages hundreds of fans through various activities, giveaways, fundraisers, and support for local Korean businesses.
As BTS prepares for their highly anticipated return to Toronto after more than a decade, Vann reflects on the positive impact the fan club has had on her life. Co-managing BTS Army Toronto with her son Jordan and a dedicated team, Vann emphasizes the friendships and connections fostered within the community as the most rewarding aspect of her involvement.
Ahead of their performances at Rogers Stadium as part of the Arirang World Tour, BTS is set to entertain around 100,000 fans over two nights with their chart-topping hits like “Swim,” “Permission to Dance,” and “Butter.” The band’s devoted following, known for their deep knowledge of BTS’s history and music, eagerly awaits the upcoming shows.
Vann attributes the fans’ unwavering loyalty to BTS’s meaningful music, which touches on themes like mental health, self-love, and personal growth. She praises the band for their intentionality in creating music that makes a difference in the world, a sentiment that has inspired her to launch a new business venture called Idol Konnect catering to K-pop artists.
After overcoming a hiatus as members fulfilled military service obligations, BTS is embarking on a global tour, with Toronto being their sole Canadian stop. The tour, spanning 88 shows across 34 cities in 23 countries until March 2027, highlights BTS’s journey from underdogs to international superstars since their debut in 2013.
For Vann and other fans, BTS’s return to Toronto symbolizes a homecoming, especially given the cancellation of their 2020 concerts due to the pandemic. The anticipation for the upcoming shows has led fans like Aira Uy to secure tickets and eagerly await the performance.
In anticipation of the concerts, BTS Army Toronto is actively engaging fans through various initiatives, including participating in the Toronto Korean Festival and hosting pre-concert events for members. Vann looks forward to the unique concert experience with BTS and the post-concert connection shared among fans.
As the concert date approaches, excitement continues to build within the BTS fan community, with Vann and others anticipating the memorable moments and the lasting impact of the concert experience.
