A 28-year-old man, Rhydian Jamieson, from Cwm Cou, Newcastle Emlyn, has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the attempted murder of his baby daughter in a village in West Wales. Jamieson threw the infant at a television in a moment of uncontrollable rage and then left without checking on her, as revealed in court.
Despite pleading guilty to attempted murder at Swansea Crown Court in April of the previous year, the judge criticized Jamieson for his lack of genuine remorse. Emergency services were summoned to a property in Y Ferwig, Ceredigion, on January 15, where the baby was swiftly taken to Glangwili Hospital for treatment.
After initial care at Glangwili Hospital, the baby was transferred to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where medical professionals diagnosed bleeding on the brain, a fractured skull, and severe bruising. Judge Paul Thomas handed down a 35-year prison sentence to Jamieson, with a 12.5% reduction for his guilty plea, characterizing the assault as an act of extreme callousness and self-centeredness.
During the proceedings, it was disclosed that Jamieson initially tried to retract his guilty plea, did not cooperate with pre-sentence reports, and had previously attempted to shift blame onto a family member for the child’s injuries, showcasing a self-centered attitude.
