A police detention was made involving a teenage girl who allegedly poisoned meals meant for her parents and cousin after being prohibited from meeting a boyfriend. The 17-year-old girl reportedly admitted to adding chumbinho, a toxic substance usually used for killing rodents, to three meals prepared by her mother in Nova Serrana, Minas Gerais, Brazil, on January 7. The intended recipients were her 35-year-old mother, 41-year-old father, and 36-year-old cousin, as stated by the Military Police.
Following a disagreement with her parents, the girl took drastic action. Major Renato Geraldo da Silva of the Military Police revealed that the girl disclosed her actions were fueled by anger due to her family disapproving of her romantic relationship. She took the opportunity to contaminate the meals prepared every night by her mother for herself, her father, and cousin. The poison, identified as chumbinho, was found mixed into the food.
The cousin, while eating one of the meals, noticed an odd texture and ceased consumption, prompting further investigation. The girl’s parents were informed, and the cousin sought medical attention, undergoing treatment and remaining stable. The police confirmed the detention of the girl and stated that the case is currently under investigation.
The girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, was taken to the Civil Police station with legal representation and is under the jurisdiction of the justice system. The toxic substance, containers, and meals were collected for forensic analysis to determine the composition of the poison. Civil Police have affirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
In a separate incident in Australia, Erin Patterson was convicted of the triple murder of family members by serving them a deadly meal containing death cap mushrooms. The case received international attention, with Patterson receiving multiple life sentences and an extended period of imprisonment.
