Former actor John Alford, known for his roles in London’s Burning and Grange Hill, has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for sexually abusing two young girls. The 53-year-old was found guilty of various sexual offenses at a party, including sexual activity and assault. Alford remained stoic as Recorder Caroline Overton delivered the sentence at St Albans Crown Court.
After the verdict, Alford gestured towards his family before being taken into custody. Recorder Overton specified that he would serve a significant portion of his sentence before potential release on license. Alford was also ordered to report his whereabouts to the police indefinitely and abide by a restraining order preventing contact with the victims.
The court learned that the incidents occurred during a sleepover at a friend’s house, where Alford took advantage of the girls’ vulnerability. Overton emphasized Alford’s breach of trust as a family friend and highlighted his lack of remorse for his actions. Alford was also subjected to strict orders regarding his interactions with minors and restrictions on his movements.
Both victims provided impactful statements during the trial, detailing the profound emotional and physical repercussions of the assaults. The court heard how Alford’s actions had deeply scarred their lives, leading to psychological trauma and ongoing struggles. Alford, also known as John Shannon, was handed a lengthy prison sentence, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and a restraining order to protect the victims.
