The forceful response from Washington DC comes in the wake of the tragic death of Robina Aminian, a 23-year-old student who was fatally shot while preparing to join a protest. Human rights organizations have raised alarm over the escalating death toll, with Robina’s family having to search through numerous bodies in makeshift morgues to locate her remains.
Robina’s uncle, Nezar Minouei, described her as a spirited and independent individual who stood for freedom and women’s rights. The ongoing protests in Iran, both within the country and among the Iranian diaspora, reflect widespread discontent with the ruling regime established after the Islamic Revolution in 1979.
