Renowned chef James Martin, hailing from Malton, has praised a dining spot in Yorkshire for offering a transcendent fish and chip experience. Speaking on LNER’s Routes podcast with host Jenni Falconer, he highlighted the Magpie Café in Whitby as a must-visit destination. Martin recommended patrons try the large haddock with mushy peas, salt, vinegar, and tartar sauce for the ultimate dining experience.
Expressing his admiration for the establishment’s fare and recalling fond memories of enjoying it by the seaside, James emphasized the sensory delight of the meal. The Magpie Café, situated on Whitby’s seafront, has garnered over four and a half stars from nearly 9,000 Google reviews.
This is not the first time James has spoken affectionately about Yorkshire. In a previous interview with Food and Travel Magazine, he reminisced about the charm of Whitby and York. He praised the historical significance of York, particularly the Shambles, and expressed his delight in the abundance of culinary opportunities in the region.
Despite currently dividing his time between Manchester, Hampshire, and the Cotswolds, James hinted at the possibility of returning to Yorkshire permanently. He expressed his deep love for the region and its offerings, noting his strict weekly schedule that includes regular visits to Yorkshire.
James Martin’s Saturday Morning show airs at 9.30am on ITV.
