The Toronto Raptors have announced that they will honor Kyle Lowry by retiring his jersey number, No. 7, during a ceremony following their matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on January 10. Lowry will join Vince Carter as the only other player in Raptors history to receive this recognition at Scotiabank Arena.
After a remarkable 20-year career in the NBA, Lowry officially retired in July at the age of 40, finalizing his legacy with a one-day contract with the Raptors. Expressing his anticipation for the occasion, Lowry stated that Toronto has always been home to him and that seeing his No. 7 jersey raised in the arena holds profound significance.
Reflecting on his time with the team, Lowry emphasized the special bond he shared with his teammates, the organization, the city, and the fans. He highlighted the collective journey to becoming NBA champions in 2019 and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate this milestone alongside his loved ones and supporters.
During his nine seasons with the Raptors, Lowry played a pivotal role in securing the franchise’s first NBA title. As a six-time NBA All-Star, he holds the record for most assists, steals, and three-pointers in the team’s history.
